Happy Thanksgiving

"Once you chose a people and gave them a destiny and, when you brought them out of bondage to freedom, they carried with them the promise that all men would be blessed and all men could be free."
--from the Preface for Thanksgiving Day

Two thoughts:
1) Does this in some mild way endorse the some aspects of the readings that liberation theologians apply to the Exodus?
2) The Church now takes it for granted that the ideal of the Founding Fathers is compatible with the vision of the Catholic Church. Do we grasp this? How might we view our nation differently were it so? How might we view the Church differently? What gifts have come to the Church through the great experiment of the United States?

Thanks be to God for our prosperity. May He grant us the grace to share of it wisely.

If I, who seem to be your right hand and am called Presbyter and seem to
preach the Word of God, If I do something against the discipline of the Church
and the Rule of the Gospel so that I become a scandal to you, The Church, then
may the whole Church, in unanimous resolve, cut me, its right hand, off, and
throw me away.
